Two killed
on freeway
A Chehalis woman and her daughter
were killed instantly Friday afternoon
on the freeway and Jackson Highway intersection
about 18 miles south of Chehalis.
Killed were Anna Eby, 74, and her
daughter Eulalie Eby, 43. They were
passengers in a 1956 station wagon
driven by Mrs. Eby's husband, Albert,
Eby was critically injured in the two vehicle
collision which occurred about 3
p.m. He was first taken to St. Helen
Hospital and then transported to Vancouver
Memorial Hospital where he was
reported in critical condition Saturday
morning.
The deaths Friday raised the fatality count
for this year in the county to 10 according
to the State Patrol, compared
with nine at this time last year.
The mishap occurred while Eby was
attempting to cross the freeway at the
Jackson Highway, resulting in a collision
in the northbound freeway lanes
with a 1975 tractor-trailer rig driven by
Robert Lindstrorn, 63, Gig Harbor. Lindstrom
was not injured. The rig received
about $200 damage.
After the Eby vehicle was struck
broadside, troopers said, it struck a light
standard and was literally wrapped
around the pole.
