- Mr. Vaughn "Ted" Clarence Tehonica, age 70, known to the country music world as "Teddy Vaughn" and affectionately to his many grandchildren as "Papa" went home to be with the Lord Friday morning, Nov. 28, 2008, in Griffin, Ga.
Ted was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Carthage, N.Y., to John and Lily Tehonica. He was the oldest of ten children, of whom he is survived by Sandra Oakes, Gina Bailey, both of Carthage, N.Y., Jack Tehonica, of The Villages, Fla., Bill Tehonica, Jimmy Tehonica, Shirley Fitzgerald, all of Carthage, N.Y., Matt Tehonica, of Liverpool, N.Y., Chris Tehonica, and Tom Tehonica, both of Carthage, N.Y. Ted spent three years as a young man in the United States Navy and afterwards, for the rest of his life, when he wasn?t working construction as a brick mason and carpenter, he was creating and playing music with bands like the Wanderers, Western Express and the CB Ramblers. His lifetime of musical endeavors earned him an induction to the Country Music Hall of Fame on Nov. 27, 2004, and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Atlanta Society of Entertainers on Aug. 21, 2005. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ralph Oakes; and step-son, Stan Andrews.
Ted is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Tehonica, of Griffin, Ga., a woman who loved him unconditionally and served as his true helpmate for 30 years; his children, Debbie Simmons, of Jackson, Ga., Vicki Myers, of McDonough, Ga., Joann Bryan, of Barnesville, Ga., Shelly Wilkins, of Stockbridge, Ga., Laura Coppedge, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Gini Cason, of Stockbridge, Ga., Teddy Tehonica, of Oakdale, La., Kim Martin, of Griffin, Ga., Mike Tehonica, of Laurens, S.C., Matt Tehonica, of Gainesville, Ga., and Mandy Stanford, of Griffin, Ga.; 28 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Memorial services for Mr. Vaughn "Ted" Clarence Tehonica will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.
