    • Jim was the tenth child of Thomas and Elizabeth and was born on the homestead farm in Washington County, Kansas. He attended school at the Hoffine School and later attended the Academy in Washington, Kansas. He remained on the farm until he was 21 years of age and then secured a job with the Fairmont Creamery Company. He was married on his birthday to Marion Osterhout.
After their marriage they lived in Morrowville, Kansas for two years. During the forty years he was employed by the Fairmont Creamery Company, they lived in Concordia, Kansas and Crete, Nebraska until 1930 when he was transferred to Guthrie, Oklahoma where he was manager of the Guthrie Branch of the Creamery. While living in Guthrie, he was very active in civic affairs and served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of thr Rotary Club, President of the Board of Education, and was Superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School for several years, and was on the Executive Council of the Boy Scouts. In 1940 he retired after forty years of service with the creamery and moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma where he entered private business. During the war he gave his time to the war effort by working for the Douglas Aircraft Factory in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In June of 1947 the couple moved to Boise, Idaho.
Jim Adams always had a great interest in his father's family and their history. It was due to his persuasion that Thomas Adams wrote the long interesting letter that is the history of his life. It was due to his efforts that the second family reunion was held at his home in Crete, Neb. in 1929 which was attended by 103 members of the family. At that time a movie was made of the members which was one of his prized possessions.

This is the opening page of the book that James published on 1/Jan/1950.
"I have compiled this book containing the Thomas and Elizabeth Adams Family History in memory of my father and mother, Thomas and Elizabeth Adams, and their descendants who followed them in death. It is being distributed for the benefit of their living descendants and those to follow in later years.
Thomas and Elizabeth Adams were married in 1858 (92 years ago) and since then there have been 274 blood descendants. I have had the privilege of meeting and corresponding with the majority of them. The family has had three reunions The first was held at the home of William Adams at Ft. Cobb, Okla. in 1927. The second was held at my home in Crete, Nebr. in 1929 and I had the pleasure of welcoming 103 members of the family. In 1932 the Bales Family held another reunion for the Adams Family in Loveland, Colorado which had a large representation of the family. Since a lot of us are getting a little old to travel for reunions I have endeavored to make this book a means of bring closer connections between families.
This book consists of twelve chapters, each chapter containing the history of each of the twelve children of Thomas and Elizabeth Adams. At the beginning of the book is a page containing a brief history of Thomas and Elizabeth Adams. The children are listed on that page as well as the page number for their chapter. The chapters are arranged according to the date of birth of the children. I have written a brief one-page history about each of the children, partly from memory and the rest from facts obtained from various sources. In some cases the history of the husbands of my sisters is inadequate and I hope that some member of those families will compile a more complete history to be inserted in the books for thier descendants.
I finally decided it would be too great a task to include everything I would like to, so I have only included the most vital data on each of the other descendants. I have only included addresses for the grandchildren of Thomas and Elizabeth Adams. The addresses of their children can be secured from them. I had originally planned to bring the Military History up to date, but it will be necessary to delay that until a future date.
