W.R. Abernathy Dies Wednesday At His Home
William Robert Abernathy, 88, of Cartersville Route 1, died Wednesday, April 14, at his home, after a lingering illness. A native of Bartow County, he was born November 1, 1865, a son of Daniel and Sarah Coley Abernathy. He was a retired farmer and had done considerable preaching; Old Macedonia being among the churches where he spoke. He was affiliated with the Baptist church. He was married many years ago to Miss Annie Blackburn, who survives. Funeral services were held at 1 o?clock Friday afternoon, April 16, at the New Macedonia church, on the Canton Highway, with the Rev. Will Howell and the Rev. Bartow Abernathy officiating. Interment was in the Old Macedonia cemetery, with the Owen Funeral Home in charge. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Frank Abernathy of Cartersville, and Nat Abernathy of Cartersville Route 2; two daughters, Mrs. Eliza Keever, of Cartersville Route 3, and Mrs. Lillian Millsap, of Cloverdale, Alabama; 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
