Together they purchased Barnabas Devitt's interest in the Bridgeport Mills and purchased the Salem Mills where he carried on his business for some years. Some time between 1875 and 1876 he disposed of his Salem property and moved into Waterloo, where his wife Lucy Kauffman died.
