Our Elmore Family Origins in America
John Elmore was probably a 6th generation American and his line can possibly be tracked back to the immigrant, Peter Elmore, born about 1627 in England and died about 1681 in Virginia. Some of these connections, however, have been difficult to document and various geneologists have placed disclaimers on the information. Nevertheless, John apparently moved from Virginia to North Carolina in the late 1700's. We know that William was born in North Carolina, probably about 1798. We also know that John left a will when he died in 1829, and that he left a son, William (presumably our William), $5 and left another son his plantation. We also know that William had moved his wife and family out of the area by that time, so the bequest of only $5 may have been the result of a disagreement. However, we can conclude that there is strong circumstantial evidence that John was William's father and so I show this as a possible connection for future research.
