    • Neta Tarkington Abernathy, 91, wife of the late Richard Fittz Abernathy, of Lake Land'or, Ladysmith, formerly of Glen Allen, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2011.

      She was active in the United Methodist Women's Richmond District and Greenwood United Methodist Church for 25 years. She volunteered at Richmond Memorial Hospital for 20 years.

      She is survived by four children, Richard Abernathy of Richmond, Ronald Abernathy of Alexandria, Cheryl Abernathy of Richmond and Douglas Abernathy of Huntington Beach, Calif., as well as son-in-law, Donald Lafferty. Survivors also include three grandchildren, Jeffrey Abernathy, Stephanie Allison and Laura Wade Shirley, and four great-grandchildren, Rohan and Maren Abernathy-Wee and Noah and Luke Shirley.

      The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bliley's - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where a funeral service will be held Thursday, 12 noon. Interment to follow at Westhampton Memorial Park.
