History: Enoch Eby was born in Juniata County, Pennsylvania in 1828, the son of Jacob and Susannah Myers Eby. He was married to Hettie Howe in 1847 (d. 1863) and Anne Lauver Gilfilen in 1864 (d. 1906). He moved to Jo Daviess County, Illinois in 1855. Enoch Eby united with the German Baptist Brethren church in 1845; was elected to the ministry, 1851; and became an elder, 1864. He served as elder in charge of the Waddams Grove congregation, 1864-1887. He was moderator for eleven Annual Conferences. Enoch Eby was a Brethren pioneer in the field of foreign missions. He served as a missionary to Denmark in 1877 and was a member of the Foreign and Domestic Missionary Board. For more on Enoch Eby, see John Heckman and J.E.
