    • Bernethy, Albert J. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Covenant Health Care - Cooper. Age 88 years. Son of the late William and Louise (Phelps) Bernethy, Albert was born on May 2, 1920 in Mayville, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He married Maxine M. Burns, his loving wife of 64 years, on September 2, 1944. She survives him. Albert had been employed by Markey Elliott Furniture and retired in 1980. He was a charter member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. He was a member of American Legion Post #439. Albert was an avid golfer and reader, and spent winters in Florida. Surviving besides his wife Maxine are one son, Michael Patrick (Stacey) Bernethy, Spring Lake; two grandsons, Joseph Bernethy, Las Vegas, Nevada; Jack A. Bernethy, Muskegon; sisters-in-law, Marcella Bernethy and Dorothy Burns; several nieces and nephews. Albert was predeceased by a daughter, Michele Bernethy, a !
      brother, William Bernethy, and a sister, Carolyn Martin. The Family wishes to acknowledge St. Francis Home and staff for their compassionate care for Albert during his stay there. Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. William R. Taylor will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1859. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty) where the family will be present on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Vigil Service, led by Audrey Wilson, will take place 4:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Stephen Catholic Church or St. Francis Home.
