    • Partial Newspaper Article 23 Oct 1984:

      1875 Tombstone Found in Attic
A 100 year old tombstone found in the attic of the oldest known store in operation in Intercourse (Worst's Store) while preparing for public auction, denotes the death of baby J. Franklin Eaby, born September 15, 1872 and died 3 years and 11 days later on October 3, 1875. He was the son of Jason Franklin and Amanda Eaby, former proprietors of the old store before it became Worst's store.

The tombstone, dusty, but in excellent condition, bears the inscription "Walk softly - He sleeps," and has a beautiful flower etched into the granite. Why this tompstone was removed and stored in the attic of the store all these years is not known. The headstone has been replaced with another and is located in the family plot in the cemetery of the Old Leacock church on Rt. 340.

The Eaby family plot lies to the North (right) side of the entrance of the church. The 15 ft. square plot has a large EABY memorial in the center and is surrounded by nine graves. It is here that baby Jason is buried. Beside it is the double headstone of his father and mother, Jason K EABY and Amanda ZOOK EABY.................."
