      --------- Putman, Ernest W. (10 APR 1875 – 26 MAY 1927)
Ernest Wesley Putman, eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Putman, was born at Augusta, Wis., April 10, 1875, and died at the Marshfield Hospital May 26, 1927.
On March 7, 1896, he was united in marriage with Miss Clara Bangle of Fairchild, Eau Claire Co., Wis. To this union were born eleven children, of whom two, Velva and Volney, preceded him in death, in early childhood. The remaining children are: Mrs. Lewis Fitzmaurice, Humbird; Mrs. James Sainsbury, Courderay; Ivan V. of Owen; Ernest, Lyman, Margaret, Dorothy, John and little Clara, who are at home.
The deceased leaves, besides the above named children, his wife; an aged mother, Mrs. Amanda Putman; two sisters, Mrs. Peter O’Leary and Mrs. Luzi Schneller, of Two Rivers; one brother, Russ of Humbird; five grandchildren; two aged uncles, Wm. Putman of Chippewa Falls and Wm. Nokes of Winchester; besides numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Putman spent all of his life in and about Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.). Apparently he was a strong, robust man, but in March last, he suffered an attack of the flu from which he never fully recovered. However, his death was a shock to his family as well as the entire community, for no one expected it when it came. He was a member of Mound Camp No. 2430 M.W.A. for the past twenty-five years.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Tuesday afternoon and burial was in Mentor Cemetery. Those coming from a distance to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Peter O’Leary and family, Mr. and Mrs. Luzi Schneller and family, Two Rivers; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Putman, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Wm. Boetcher and daughter, Fall Creek; Mrs. Dell Bangle, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Schanberger, Mrs. Charles Bangle, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. James Sainsbury and family, Courderay. The burial sermon was preached by C. Sigglekow of Withee, who had performed the marriage ceremony thirty-one years ago. A delegation of Woodmen escorted the cortege to the cemetery. [1]
