    • With permission from thomas Scribner:

Thomas Harvey was the sixth of eight children born of William Scribner and Susan Sophia Newberry. It is my understanding that birth and death records were not required until 1867 in the state of Ohio. Census enumerations from 1870 indicate that Thomas Harvey Scribner was born in Cardington, Morrow County, Ohio, on April 3, 1860. We believe that Thomas grew up in that area because 1880 census documents of Cardington, record that Thomas was still living with his parents at the age of twenty.

Not long after the census, on September 25, 1883, Thomas married his wife Rosina Agnes Lorett. Rosa, as she was known, was born on May 16, 1866, in Quincy, Illinois, and was the daughter of Michael Lorett and Elizabeth Amon. Her father had come to this country from Bavaria, Germany, arriving in New York.

Thomas and Rosa had seven children; their names being Minnie, William, Nellie, Mable, Floyd, Viola, and Harvey.

Thomas and Rosa left Ohio and migrated to Caldwell County, Missouri, perhaps as early as 1884. We know this by the date and place of birth for their daughter Minnie. She was born in Braymer in 1884. The details concerning their move further west are still unclear, but it is known Thomas and his wife lived in Braymer, Missouri, with four of their children, Minnie, William, Nellie, and Mable being born there. Rosa's parents had been living and farming in Caldwell County since 1871.

Thomas and Rosa left Braymer and moved their family into the Indian Territory in an area now known as Payne County, Oklahoma. We can estimate the year of this relocation by the birth date and birthplace of their son Floyd who was born in 1899 in Yale, Oklahoma. I have a family photo dated 1899 in Shafter, Oklahoma that places the Scribner family in this region. The 1900 census places Thomas in Eagle Township, Payne County, Oklahoma

Census enumerations show that by 1910 Thomas Harvey had moved his family to Barry County, Missouri, where he lived until his death on January 6, 1944, in Exeter, Missouri. The homes that he and his family had lived in still remain.

Thomas Harvey is buried with his wife in the Maplewood Cemetery located in Exeter, Missouri. You will find their gravemarkers facing the road at the rear of the cemetery. They are buried beside their son Harvey Francis who had the misfortune of being murdered by his father-in-law. Thomas' son Floyd and his daughter Viola are buried in another section of this cemetery.

The following website is the best that I have visited concerning those buried at Maplewood Cemetery, located in Exeter, Barry County, Missouri. My apologies for the poor quality of the photos. This is not a link so you will need to paste this address onto your browser:
