      Notes for Adonijah Jordan:
      Jordans were known to be in West Virginia as early as 1818. On January 4, 1847 William and his wife Elizabeth Carr Jordan, daughter of John and Abigal Carr had a son named Adonijah Jordan. At age of fourteen he joined as a private in Captain Lam bert's company, in 1861 and when his time was up reinlisted in Captain Samson Snyder's company of West Virginia state troops and served through out the Civil War until April 1865. In 1870 he married Amanda Nelson born May 24, 1856 daughter of Isa ac and Susan Porter Nelson, daughter of George Porter and Sarah Tingler. To this union were born 16 children:
      J. Jordan, H. Jordan, Fleet, Okey, Baxter, Brannon, Tallehassie Jordan Edmenson, Blanche, Jessie, Hetzel, Clintwood, Caddie, William.
      Adohijah followed farming in early days. At one time his father William owned the land that Job, West Virginia was built on.
      In 1909 the Jordan family moved to Idaho, then in 1912 moved to Gildford, Montana.
      He took up homestead on 320 acres. Due to health reasons he moved back to Weippe, Idaho.
      Adonijah and sons were mostly over six foot and well built men. He took up farming and logging in Idaho. Grandson of Adonijah, Baxter Edmenson of Oregon remembers as a child when his Grandfather came to stay a few days with Harvey and Tallhassi e Edmenson. Harvey bought a new cow which he was proud of. Harvey took Adonijah out to the barn to look her over and show his father-in-law what a good deal he made. The snow was about four feet deep in the pasture. The cow was in the barn area . They got out to the barn and, Harvey went in to get his pride and joy. The cow was a little spooky she took off out of the barn on a dead run. As Harvey didn't want the cow to get away, when she passed he grabbed her tail. The cow kept on goi ng as Harvey was running with the tail in his hands. Then she kind of made a sharp turn to the right and that picked Harvey up off his feet and threw him in the air and he landed in snow which covered his whole body. Adonijah was standing and wa tching this and started to laugh. Adonijah kept laughing so hard he fell over in the snow as he was laughing.

Has lived inTucker, Randolph, and Pendleton Counties; farmer; owns 200 acres, 150 improved. One-half the town of Job is built on lan d formerly belonging to him. His land was granted to Thomas B. Summerfield 114 years ago; later, part of it belonged to Soldier White. Mr. Jordan was postmaster under Harrison.
