  • Notes
    • Grace was the eleventh child of Thomas and Elizabeth and was born on the homestead in Washington Co., KS. Her first school was at the Hoffin School. Her opporyunity for school was better than that of her older brothers and sisters and she secured a better education. Alittle instance in her life occured when she was four years old. Her mother, her brother jim,her sister Pearl, and Grace were out at the woodpile when a wagon came driving around the bend. In it were the oldest brother, Tommie, and sister Anna who had both been in the State of Washington for several years and none of the younger children knew them. When they drove into the yard, the mother fainted. Tommie and Anna came running, picked her up, and carried her to the house. The three little children headed for the corn field and it was nearly an hour before they were found there. Grace was a beautiful little redhead and took her turn at housekeeping for the members of the family at home. She was a good and faithful worker, doing her best to please and never complaining. Grace stayed at the home of her sister Ida part of her early life.
Grace and walter began their married life on a farm in Jewell County, Kansas, raising corn and livestock, at which they were quite successful. Later they moved onto a wheat farm near Acres, Kansas. At the time this was compiled, 1 January, 1950, they still had their wheat farming interests near Ashland, Kansas, although they were living in Laverne, Oklahoma.
Grace and Walter had their hardships and heartaches but with their trust in the Lord had found comfort and joy with their four lovely daughters and their grandchildren.
