- With Permission from Thomas Scribner:
The following obituary concerns Fannie Catherine Flair. This obituary comes from an undated and unidentified newspaper. It reads:
Fannie Catherine Flair was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, March 1, 1864, and had attained the age of 75 years, 1 month, and 8 days, when the end came April 9, 1939. A charter member of the Evangelical church, she was confirmed by Rev. Wm. Buehler April 12, 1891, remaining a constant member. Her marriage to Fred G. Rubelman, now a retired hardware merchant was performed March 1, 1887. Though always frail, she possessed will power and energy and like Dorcas of the Scripture was known and loved for good deeds. Answering the call of the needy, orphaned and sorrowing with generous purse and nimble fingers, fashioned beautiful garments for the laying away of the dead. Small wonder that the church auditorium was filled with relatives and friends here to pay a last tribute to her memory and sympathize with her family on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 11. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Sabbert first at the home with Miss Maurine Brunkhorst as pianist in charge of music. a quartette sang "Old Rugged Cross". The senior choir of the church sang "Abide With Me"; "Lead Kindly Light" and "Shall We Gather at the River". Her minister's text for general service was from Luke 24:29. Pallbearers were her nephew Dr. E.L. Mayer, Harry Flair, Harold Herring, Gaines Neale, Roy Nolte, Roy Flair, Lawrence Rehkop, and Harry Meyer. She will be greatly missed by her frail husband, the daughters, sisters, brothers, other relatives, friends and church Ladies Aid Society, where she served as treasurer for 25 years. Interment was made in the Blackburn Cemetery. Floral offerings were in large number and beautiful. Those attending the funeral from a distance were from Dodge City, Kansas; Shawnee, Kansas; Kansas City; St. Louis, Higginsville; Corder; Malta Bend; Marshall and surrounding towns.
