I've found my great-great-grandfather's name spelled Bernhardt or Bernhard. It appears that he was known by the name Barney. I've chosen to use the name spelling that is found on his grave marker which is Bernhart.
Bernhart Flair was born in Germany on October 12, 1826.
Barney's first marriage was to Elizabeth Herker. They had eight children.
He later married my great-great-grandmother Anna Katherine Viebrock. Miss Viebrock had been married previously and was known as Anna Meyer before marrying Barney. Anna and Barney had six children.
I found Barney mentioned in Anna's obituary which mentions her marriage to Bernhart, and names their 6 children.
I've also found mention of Barney in newspaper clippings concerning his daughter Katie, and her marriage to Louis H. Nolte in 1899.
Barney is buried in the Blackburn Cemetery located in Blackburn, Saline County, Missouri. I've visited and photographed his gravemarker. His gravemarker is about six feet tall with his name inscribed on one side and his second wife's name on the other. His wife's inscription identifies her as Annie K. Flair. There are a number of his children and their families buried around them.
