  • Notes
    • Joseph Abernethy (s/o John and Frances) as a young man joined the Fenians. When he returned home he married a girl from the Bradford area. Their little boy died, and shortly thereafter, his wife also died.

He then married Jane Robb January 3 1871 and they settled on the next lot to his father. To them two sons and one daughter were born: Samuel James Abernethy who continued to live in Tecumseth; George Elgar Abernethy of Orillia (= Frances Mills), and Effie Abernethy.

Joseph was a stone mason by trade. Many places around here still stand. Some of his works were the Tottenham United Church, and the Maple Leaf Hotel, Tottenham, Ontario.

He later moved to the south 1/2 Lot 4, on the 6th line. It was here his wife Jane Robb died at age 52 in 1899. He continued to work and live here until his daughter married John Miller and moved to Avonlea, Saskatchewan. He then moved to the home of his son Sanuel. He passed away in 1921, and was buried in the family plot in Mount Tegart Cemetery.
