- Notes for ADDISON PINEO BROUGHTON:
Enlisted in the Union Army as a Private on 22 Feb 1864. Served as a drummer in I Co., 2nd PA Vol. Cavalry Regiment. There are two stories as to Addison's death.
1) According to a story told by Addisons brother Eli, "Addison, a drummer boy, was wounded and captured with his brother (Charles) Henry, at St. Mary's Church, and was exchanged because of severe wounds, and died of these wounds, and was sent home." Eli was also in this battle, and said the wounded in the field hospital were carried off by Mosby's Gorillas.
2) Addison proceeded as far as Pittsburgh (PA) with his regiment, on the way to the front, and contracted measles while at Camp Copeland, near Braddock, PA, and died on March 31st, 1864

Son of Michael and Sarah Broughton, Addison was a brief Civil War veteran. He enlisted February 22, 1864 and died of typhoid fever as a recruit at Camp Copeland, Braddocks Field, PA (now Braddock, PA) a little over a month later. He was a Private with Company I, 59th Regiment, 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry. Note on military burial card states "not accounted for."
