    • Robert died of a disease he contracted while in the United States Army.
I have copies of sworn testimony from his Adjutant General and his Attending Physician that he died of dropsey, disease of the heart and lung fever. All peoples mentioned above felt his ailments were contracted from exposure while in the Service of the United States. Papers describe him as being 6'4" tall, light complextion, gray eyes, light hair.

He had been allowed, on 20 Dec 1863, to go home for 12 days on furlough but his health did not allow him to return. The papers I have states, "He was a robust and hearty looking man and but for the exposure in the slight shelter then provided, he might have lived for years."

    Buried:
    • Goverment Stone Company D, 46th Indiana Infantry. [1]
