Notes |
- Dieter Eby Newman: (166)(253)
Dieter states in his book that his date of birth was 12 Feb 1704. Headstone states date given.
He was buried in the Eby Cemetary on the hill behind the homestead.
Ezra Eby states in his book that Christian was born 12 Feb 1698 in Emmental, Bern, Switzerland but according to the Eby Family Bible, which was given to Andreas Eby who was born in 1747 and inherited the bible from his father Christian, it states Christian was born in 1704. Christian inherited it from his father Durst who died in 1727 at the age of 63.
In "Eby Papers" from the book by Dieter Eby Newman, Christian speaks of his marriage to "Elisabeth Mayerin":
"On the 26th day of April in the year 1730, I Christian Eby wedded Elisabeth Mayerin. O'ye seas and rivers bless ye the Lord, praise and exalt him of all forever. The song of Three Holy Children verse 56."
In the years to follow Christian was to obtain additional tracts of land. He built his home in 1754 and placed a plaque of stone over the front door with the inscription "Christian Ebi-Elisabetha, 1754." This home still stands today (2005) and is located across from his mill near the village of Lexington about 3 miles north of Lititz, Pennsylvania.
On 24 September 1760, the Orphans court ruled that the mill and plantation were valued at 1,400 pounds, consisting of the 249 acre property and Christian Eby, son of Christian Eby, took the property at that value. The other children that released this property were John Eby, Barbara Eby, Peter Eby, Anna Eby, Andreas Eby, George Eby, Elizabeth Eby, Samuel Eby and Michael Eby. Michael resided in Delaware when he signed the release.
