Notes |
- The 1854 AL State Census of Macon Co., shows that David Abernathy, father of Rev. Jos. T. Abernathy, had a son: Alexander Abernathy, who was living next to Samuel Dobbs, brother of Reuben Dobbs, who married Mary Mobley. Mary was the d/o Thomas J. Mobley, which makes her the sister of my Sarah Elizabeth Mobley, (who of course married Rev. J.T. Abernathy). He was a young man, and also shows with only one female in HH, over 21. Unfortunately, these State census pages did not list ages, but only age groups. I have not been able to locate him after that 1854 date. Also, my great grandfather, Rev. J.T.'s son, Joseph Robert Abernathy, is listed on one of my grandmother's family's handwritten documents, as Joseph Robert Alexander Abernathy, and in the 1860 Fed. census of Coosa Co., AL, as Abernathy, _ Jos.R.A.
His elder brother, Rev. David Nathaniel Abernathy, was also referred to as "Daniel." and David Abernathy, b. 1790 NC, (the f/o Rev. Joseph T.) was in the War of 1812: His service record, obtained from the Nat'l. Archives in Wash., DC, has him listed as "David," on the Muster Roll, and as "Daniel," on the Payroll. The Nat'l. Archives assured me in writing that these two names were indeed the same person!
