Notes |
- 1870 Census Bainbridge, Berrien, Michigan as James ABERNATHY
1880 Census Watervliet, Berrien, Michigan as James ABERNATHY/ABERNETHY
- James went to Florida to look at a tobacco plantation, got yellow fever and died in 1898. [Jean Danielski] was told by one of [her] Grandma's sisters that James David was the favorite son and William just couldn't believe that his son was dead. He went to Plant City, Florida, and had them dig up the body to make certain int was really his son James. He came back to Watervliet, Michigan, and started going to a fortune teller who bilked him out of thousands of dollars, trying to contact his dead son. [Jean was] not sure how much was embellished but [she] does think this great aunt was telling the truth. [Descendants of James Abernethy, by Adele Draginda].
