    • A Journey to Corry, PA

In 1995, just before the book was published, my wife, June, my sister, Priscilla, and I made an auto trip back to Corry, PA, where we attended the Pier family reunion, and thence to Pierstown (near Cooperstown, NY) by way of Chautauqua County, and on to Great Barrington, in Massachusetts, and to Connecticut. We stopped and admired the old Pier farmland near Oxford, in Chenango County, NY. We visited several graveyards, and found a lot of ancestral graves.

At the reunion, we showed the manuscript to the people there, and so, even before it was published, they set us straight on several mistakes. It was too late to change the book, but we'll straighten it out in the next.

Nice to hear from you. I have printed out virtually everything you had on the web. Obviously, you've done a lot of work.

I should mention that on your first page, "Pier Geneology Page," you should spell it Genealogy. Also, my recors indicate that my grandfather's name was David Clarence Alamando Pier (with an extra "a"). His wife, my grandmother, Daisy Belle Catherine Brown Pier Goldsby Ackley, wrote a book called Wagon Wheels A-Rollin', which was also published by Heritage. It's presently sold out, but if you (and a few others) ask for it, they'll almost certainly reprint. It's a great book--140,000 words--which I illustrated and set in type. The old lady was 80 when she started it. I knew her well. She died at 93, in 1965.

The book is about her travels from Kansas to Washington on the Oregon trail. You are no doubt familiar with her. Her father, Dr. Joseph Brown, was one of the first physicians in the Tumwater area.

Good to hear from you. It's after midnight, and I've been updating my web site. About time to hit the hay.

      Best,

      Joe Pierre
